High Security Gates & Vehicle Barriers for Guarding Access Control Points with Wide Entrances

Request a Quote

Overview

Beam style gates are ideal for guarding access control points with wide entrances, eliminating the need to install and maintain multiple wedge barriers or bollards. And because the vertical support posts and foundations are often installed beyond the roadway margins, these barriers can reduce the risk of interference with underground utilities. The XT-4200 Anti-Ram Gate features a unique rising beam actuated by a highly reliable, electromechanical drive system. It’s also engineered to integrate seamlessly into our XL-501 Post & Beam Fence to create a turnkey perimeter security solution.

Design Features

The Ross Anti-Ram Gate utilizes a structural steel tube beam engineered to travel vertically between two bollard-like posts, which perpetually anchor the beam at either end. This system features patented, energy-absorbing technology that allows the gate to secure a 24-foot clear opening. When lowered, this cross member is housed in an unobtrusive channel and shallow foundation extending across the roadway. The efficient motion of this gate design reduces the travel distance required for the barrier to open and close compared to drop-arm gates, which pivot from one end post in a long arcing motion. This feature serves to significantly decrease the cycle time required to process vehicles and eliminates potential clearance issues with overhead objects such as trees, buildings or utilities. Normal operating time is accomplished in a mere 3 – 5 seconds.

The XT-4200 is available with many equipment options for managing operation, including control consoles, safety loops and Emergency Operation (EO). Because all of the operating components are installed above ground level, this barrier requires less maintenance than bollards and wedges and is easy to service. The Post and Beam Gate is ideal for the following conditions:

  • Wide entrances – one unit is capable of securing multiple lanes of traffic or spacious checkpoints used to process large vehicles
  • Seamless perimeter security – gate posts are engineered to accept Ross XL-501 Post & Beam Fence sections to eliminate gaps and redundant fence posts
  • Environmental restrictions – for projects where the use of hydraulics fluids is prohibited
  • High traffic – because the beam travels a short distance, this gate can process vehicles quickly
  • Restrictive site conditions – where high water tables or excessive precipitation would have a negative impact on operating components installed below ground
  • Excavation constraints – where underground utilities beneath the road surface limit the excavation depth
  • High-speed impacts – where the roadway layout allows vehicles to reach higher speeds
  • Minimal setbacks – where critical assets or equipment are located close to entrances (such as in urban areas) and a high level of security is required regardless of potential vehicle speed
  • Bicycle/motorcycle access – where preventing access by two-wheeled vehicles is desired
  • Urban and corporate settings – where visual appearance is an important consideration
  • Sound restrictions – where noise levels are a concern

Technical Data

Engineered to be extremely flexible and user friendly, the XT-4200 is the only electro-mechanical rising beam barrier that meets the ASTM M50 P1 standard. Crash tested with a 24’ clear opening, this barrier is not only a cost effective solution for securing wide entrances, it’s also designed to reduce maintenance and operating costs.

The all-electric system utilizes a continuous-duty rated motor and gearbox to provide long-term reliability and reduced downtime. And because the motor and drive system are located within the posts, they’re shielded from the elements to deter corrosion. This also makes it easy to access equipment for service. Finally, the crash beam is raised and lowered by a unique dual drive chain system to ensure consistently smooth and quiet operation.

Like our Anti-Ram Fence, the XT-4200 post design features integral rebar rods (provided by Ross) to spare installers the time and expense of purchasing rebar and building cages. The post is also engineered to accept Ross XL-501 Anti-Ram Fence Beams for a complete, integrated perimeter security system.
