Ross XT-4200 Post and Beam Gate is First Electro-Mechanical Rising Beam Barrier to Achieve ASTM F2656 M50 P1 Crash Rating

Ross Technology announces an industry first as its (XT-4200) Post and Beam Gate becomes the first electro-mechanical rising beam barrier to meet the ASTM M50 P1 crash test standard. Touted as a high-security solution, the gate is ideal for guarding access control points with wide entrances, eliminating the need to install and maintain multiple wedge barriers or bollards. The Larson Institute, at The Pennsylvania State University, performed the test in accordance with ASTM Standard Test Method F2656-15 Vehicle Crash Testing of Perimeter Barriers.

The impact condition designation for the test was set for M50 with a penetration level of P1. To achieve an M50 P1 rating, a medium-duty truck weighing 15,000 pounds is crashed into the test article at a speed of 50 mph. The resulting dynamic penetration of the leading edge of the truck’s cargo bed must be less than 1 meter beyond the pre-test inside edge of the crash beam. The maximum dynamic penetration of the XT-4200 was measured to be 0.42 meter (16.7 inches).

Crash tested with a 24’ clear opening, this barrier is not only a cost-effective solution for securing wide entrances, it’s also designed with an all-electric system and continuous-duty rated motor to provide long-term reliability and reduced downtime. The motor and drive system are located within the posts, so they are shielded from the elements to deter corrosion. This design also provides easy access for service.
