Join us to learn more about the person behind the title. Dean will share insights into his role, responsibilities, and the passions that motivate him at work and in his personal life.

To get started, could you share details about your previous work experience and how you became an Operations Manager?

I started my career in industrial maintenance service, where I would travel the country to help customers improve their equipment and processes. I’ve always enjoyed fixing things and thrive on doing meaningful work. Eventually, I was rewarded for my hardworking traits and naturally progressed into a management role.

What drives me in my role as an Operations Manager is the opportunity to make a difference. I’m not just here to oversee processes; I enjoy being actively involved in decision-making and preparing my team to tackle the challenges of manufacturing head-on. Every day presents new obstacles to overcome, and it’s incredibly rewarding to directly impact the success of the company.

What are your main responsibilities at Dexco?

My main responsibility is to make sure that there’s a smooth flow of jobs. I have constant communication with each department to make sure everyone is on the same page about our pipeline, material management, and production schedules. Consistency and open communication are key to a successful operation. I firmly believe that when we all know what’s expected and can rely on each other, it not only brings a sense of pride in our work but also contributes to our safety and standards. It’s about trust and accountability, and that’s something I take great pride in creating within our team. I also focus on motivating and supporting employees, helping them succeed and grow in their roles. There’s nothing quite like celebrating those who rise to the occasion.

What excites you about the future of manufacturing and how do you see Dexco playing a role in it?

What excites me is that steel has a deep-rooted history in America, driven by technology. Steel is the fundamental bones and sturdy foundation for countless industries and businesses. And automation continues to be a game-changer. It’s great to see how everything advances and becomes more efficient, especially with robots. At Dexco, we continuously look for improvement areas and invest in new equipment. This allows us to stay current while improving capacity, production quality, and ultimately customer satisfaction. Hearing that our customers are confident and happy with our products motivates us to keep pushing forward.

Can you share your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I’m a bit of a gearhead—I love tinkering and riding. I particularly enjoy long motorcycle rides like my recent trip to Florida and back. I’m also a racing enthusiast, a passion that was sparked by my dad and has only grown stronger over the years. But it’s not all grease and gasoline for me—I’m also a bit of a sneakerhead, particularly when it comes to collecting Jordans. I find joy in the details, the history, the craftsmanship, and the shared passion of these communities.

What is the best career advice that you’ve received?

My father taught me that you can always make a difference, even if you are the lowest rung on the ladder. Whether it’s a simple task or tackling a complex project, you are presented with an opportunity to improve and make a positive impact. That’s a principle I carry with me in everything I do—it’s about finding purpose and meaning in even the smallest of tasks.

Thank you so much Dean for sharing your insights. We appreciate your openness in sharing your experiences and passions with us.
